About The Artwork

Classically draped or naked beauties guide the way to the heavens. This mixed media artwork is made up of figures of women reposing in a dome that appears to be the opening to the heavens or to a time tunnel. The figures come from classical renaissance paintings, but they are presented in a modern and almost abstract manner. Their faces seem tranquil, at peace, almost bored and yet inviting you to join them. They are sirens, calling you up to the celestial skies. The artwork has a sense of mystery to it, the women are seemingly sitting on the edge of a cliff with their feet dangling over what seems like an abyss. There is something about their faces that tells you they have seen all there is to see in life and yet they remain beautiful and inviting. The women are semi clad, dressed in classical robes, but the painting itself is quite modern. It could be a reinterpretation of some Renaissance art or maybe even an homage to it. Handmade collage using images from old books, bits and pieces of paper, watercolor and pastels. This collage is matted but not framed. 13.25x13.75 inches

A collage is a unique artistic creation that defies categorization. It blends the old and the new, the figurative and the abstract, and everything in between. My life experiences are like a collage, a mix of diverse influences that have shaped my perspective and creativity. Growing up in Argentina, I was exposed to a rich blend of cultures due to my Spanish, English, and Indigenous heritage. I attended a British private school in the suburbs of Buenos Aires, where I learned about Argentina's history in English, an unusual yet fitting experience. In my neighborhood, I played with children from different backgrounds, including descendants of Italian, Spanish, and Jewish immigrants. Hearing their stories and comparing our cultural tapestries left a lasting impression on my imagination and consciousness, leading me to appreciate and love contrasts and opposing perspectives. In 1980, my family and I left Argentina to escape the violence of the Dirty War. This move exposed me to a new spectrum of multiplicity that included American superheroes and nuances. Amidst this cultural amalgamation, I began to craft stories and mental collages that mixed elements of Argentine history, the Dirty War, American iconography, my own ancestral lineage, and my experiences as a Latino immigrant -- all infused with my penchant for fantasy. Collages have become my chosen medium to express intricate emotions and narratives that blend different perspectives and artistic styles that are as diverse as my upbringing. Each collage serves as a visual metaphor, illustrating the mix-and-match contrasts and interconnectedness of our world. Through them, I aim to foster a dialogue between traditions, histories, ethnic and sexual perspectives, and personal narratives -- inviting viewers to explore the intricacies of our shared human experience.
