CRYSTAL SPIRITS (2016-17) In The Crystal Spirits series, I’ve assembled a series of digital work featuring photographs from my personal collection of crystals and stones. These images are processed to create a kind of kaleidoscopic image, where to my astonishment, I discovered a hidden surprise within them. Each crystal photograph carries within it a particular pattern that is not revealed until it is duplicated in it’s mirror image. No matter how disordered or random it may appear at first glance, the image is always deceiving. I can’t imagine or predict what I will discover within the crystal photograph until the pieces are put together, like a puzzle that only reveals itself once it is whole. In my process, what appears as mystical images brought about in symmetrical shapes are in fact crystal spirits, ancient deities, mythological creatures, and gods and goddesses lurking deep within each stone. How can random stones or crystals create a seemingly ancient divine character? The ideas in these images explore ancient philosophies and new thoughts affirming that everything that exists in nature ultimately follows a particular order intimately connected by sacred geometry. Look deeply and these crystals spirits will appear to you too. ------------- A clear faceted citrine crystal. I was mesmerized by the alien/insect head shaped creatures that lurk beyond the surface. Appearing in a totem-like form they look intently back as if to warn of things to come, consider, reexamine. It seemed to be asking, "am I the alien or are you"? –Things are not as simple as they may appear. Citrine Crystal Properties - Citrine is the stone of generosity, prosperity, vitality and auspicious luck. Citrine is considered one of the best abundance and prosperity crystals because of it assists in the achievement of clear intentions at a fast rate. Referred to as the "merchant stone" it is said to bring prosperity to business owners. Citrine crystals bring joy, promote personal will and power; it also brings a bright focused energy to all aspects of life. A positivity builder, it fosters cooperation within families and brings about to the forefront the joyful aspects of life. Another special aspect of citrine is that it does not hold negative energy, it helps to transmute and ground it.
