About The Artwork

Order, formed from unshakable beliefs, helps form the backbone of things. But at other times, without realizing it, it also turns into a chain that binds us to ourselves and to others. Chaos as a Counter to Stifling Order A stick of order that stirs up the chaos that lacks life force. Both are the way the world breathes. The world is always switching ambiguously between inside and outside, and human beings themselves are ambiguous beings lying on the boundary. When the body can naturally accept that there are always blind spots inside and outside of oneself, behind, in heaven and on earth, then a beautiful breath that connects the inside and outside of the world will appear.

In 2009, Hamu Isen invented a unique technique of mixing acrylic paint and clay, fixing it directly to the support by hand or with a spatula, and finally scraping off the surface. The unique feature of this technique is that the surface is scraped off after the paint is fixed. In other words, the color and shape of the painting is not known until it is scraped off. With this technique, he creates a state where the conscious and unconscious intersect. He is interested in the boundaries between paternity and maternity, order and chaos, consciousness and unconsciousness, artificial and natural. He also uses these comparisons to explore Japan's unique culture and identity. He often creates abstract forms using the silver ratio and golden ratio and is often inspired by motifs related to Japanese culture ( Shimenawa-Rope, Snake, Lightning, Nature, etc.).
