The Everyday Glitch is a project whereby I look at the everyday world and flip it on its head, warping our perception on our reality within the digital climate for what a photographic image can be. Forming an intertwining bond of the ‘errors’ becoming the happy accidents, my work revolves around ‘camera-less photography’ and everyday objects and through an experimental process with no editing, Photoshop or mobile apps create natural distortions that alter our perception on reality through the process itself. Dysfunctional hybrids of the analogue and the digital are made to further express a feeling of the abnormal, thus enhance our minds on what a glitch can be. The piece 'Death of The Digital Image' depicts a skull that represents the death of the modern photographic image, theres debate about the 'death of painting,' this image is the roles reversed. I wanted to make a piece thats very strong for its surreal distortion of a real life skull, bending our forms of reality and yet show lots of subtlety and detail within the destruction, I play with contrasts, I explore process, I experiment and push the inanimate object to its fullest through camera-less processes to warp our views on reality as we know it. The piece is also a nod to still life and re-contextualising one of the iconic symbols and references in Fine Art, the skull. The camera-less medium is one Ive been exploring and developing for a long time and believe it has great strength due to how intimate the experience of creating such work is in contrast to using a methodical tool such as the DSLR, I try to create art that is magic every time for both myself the creator and the viewer.

Hello, my name is James White, I graduated with a BA Honours Degree in Fine Art and specialise in Contemporary Art/Fine Art/Photography, particular within the Glitch aesthetic. My works look at physicality within the digital image and isolate the movements of humans and/or objects. By doing so, new sequences are created which reveal an inseparable relationship between motion and aesthetics to create intense personal moments, frozen in time that depict an alternate 'glitch like world.' The Everyday Glitch is a project whereby I look at the everyday world and flip it on its head, warping our perception on our reality within the digital climate for what a photographic image can be, forming an intertwining bond of the ‘errors’ becoming the happy accidents. My work revolves around ‘camera-less photography’ but is brought up to speed within today’s digital climate. Dysfunctional hybrids of the analogue and the digital are made to further express a feeling of the abnormal, thus enhance our minds on what a glitch can be. Underlying irony is used in the work as a way of reinforcing the idea of the glitch within the viewer and the ideologies behind Photography, but is made as a playful anecdote to reject the mastery. My works are deconstructed to a degree where the form is either semi-recognisable or not at all, making the viewer create their own meaning and interpretation.
