About The Artwork

The print is of 25 Illustrations from the project PANDEMIC CHRONOTOPE / THE FIREBIRD FAIRY-TALE, which set an experiment of a collective fairy tale writing expressing an experience of COVID-19 isolation in Russia. The story is written based on submissions and updated every Sunday from 01.06.20 till 01.09.20. The narrative is based on the Russian fairy tales about the Firebird — a symbol of light, luck, happiness and received stories become adventures confronted by the tale heroes... The situation with COVID-19 produces a lot of uncertainties and myths from the virus origin to the forecasts about new order of public space and the rules of social behaviour. Current ambiguity begets the need of a theoretical description of the new world structure because human by its nature cannot deal with undefined world. Fairy tales originally functioned as representation of the idea of world's order, encoding the particular culture. The submissions were tailored together by the project author Mariia Fedorova to form a single collective fairy tale to convey an imagine of this unique time to future generations. The whole project can be found here — https://firebirdtale.rocks
