About The Artwork

When instructed to depict the Jupiter Inlet Lighthouse in the parking lot, I felt disheartened and disconnected. It made me question whether I should have sought permission beforehand. Nonetheless, even from the parking lot, the lighthouse’s prominent presence couldn’t be denied. Lighthouses, by their very essence, defy concealment. As one author aptly noted, “The inherent purpose of a lighthouse is to stand out: through its height, expense, technical intricacies, elaborate construction, isolation, and striking appearance.” As I gazed at the lighthouse from the parking lot, I channeled my emotions into my painting. Dominating the scene, the Jupiter Inlet Lighthouse loomed behind distant trees, overlooking an oil storage house that resembled an abandoned dwelling, serving as a steadfast sentinel.

My art is a lifelong voyage influenced by cherished childhood trips to Fort George Island with my father. Those days by the ocean sparked a deep passion for history and the sea. I embarked on a creative journey at the University of Hawai’i, earning a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree. Post-graduation, I ventured to the Philippines, where I birthed my first oil painting series. This collection graced an Italian group exhibit, where I shared my insights as a guest speaker. Back in the United States, a pivotal moment arrived at a workshop led by Master Artist Harriet Kronick. This experience led me to shelve my oils in favor of the spontaneity of pastels. Later, I honed my skills in a workshop guided by the renowned pastelist, Daniel E. Greene. As a pastelist, I crafted a series of commissioned portraits. My artistic path led to my first solo exhibit at Florida State College in Jacksonville, titled “Mentors and Memories.” Upon my move to Miami Beach, I shifted my focus to architectural landscapes. This transition rekindled my love for history and conservation. After a transformative journey to Paris and a visit to Monet’s Garden, I unveiled my solo exhibit in Miami Beach, aptly named “Inspirations from Paris.” This journey led me to lighthouses, crisscrossing the United States and Europe on various tours. The United States Lighthouse Society recognized my work, featuring me in their newsletter that led to receiving invitations for two solo exhibits in New York. My recent retrospective exhibit, “Full Circle” featured a Portrait Gallery, Landscape Gallery, and Lighthouse Gallery, showcasing lighthouses from around the world and more. My art continues to evolve, shaped by a profound connection to history, the ocean, and a dedication to preserving the stories of the past. Through my work, I hope to inspire others to cherish and protect the treasures of our world, both natural and cultural.
