About The Artwork

The title of the painting is a reference to the words of Christ as he is crucified in the midst of the two thieves: “Father, forgive them: they do not know what they are doing. (Lk 23:34). The face of Jesus is turned upwards, towards Heaven, towards the Father, in a painful prayer where he does not ask to be saved and to escape death, but that his executioners and with them all humanity be forgiven for this killing of God through his son. The whole Christian world stems from this precise moment, from this placing on the cross, however the latter is not very visible in this painting, which focuses on the stretched and shiny body of the imploring Christ. The figure that served as a model for this work is an ivory crucifix photographed in Munich. This painting is a unique piece made in mixed technique on canvas and combines photography, digital composition and acrylic painting. The painting is framed in black wood (total dimensions: 82 x 36 x 3.5 cm).

« In the age of digital technologies, I couldn't just be a painter or a photographer. My 'paintographies' bring down borders between techniques and offer a resolutely contemporary hybrid art. » I was born in 1975 in a small town in the French countryside and arrived in Paris in 1992 for my studies (History, English and literature). I have been a professional artist since 2007, with over 60 exhibitions across France and Europe. My artistic approach is both simple and complex. Although my work portrays a figurative aesthetic that favors clarity, it does so through a complex blending of photography, digital art, and acrylic painting. The result is a mixed technique I call ‘paintography’. My compositions highlight the fragility of the human body. I transform my model into virtual sculptures by replacing their skin with mineral materials to represent the passage of time.
