I named this painting Invention 1, because I felt it says something about curiosity and the desire to create something, no matter how simple, like the way children play with building blocks. For me these shapes are imbued with life, especially if they are seen as interacting with one another. Also I gave it a number because I hoped other inventions would follow.

About The Artwork

I named the original for this piece "Invention" because this series says something about curiosity and the desire to create something. It plays with childlike play elements like building blocks. For me these shapes are imbued with life, especially when they are seen as interacting with one another. Also I gave it a number because I hoped other inventions would follow. This is # 3.

The first painting I ever saw opened for me a world of fascination and lifelong exploration about the nature and the techniques of art. Following my childhood dream to become a painter, I embarked on a journey of discovery with endless ramifications, unexpected digressions and tantalizing new dreams; never did I doubt the beautiful nature and the value of art in human life. I grew up in France and lived in three continents: Africa, Europe and North America. Primarily self taught, I took up art classes wherever I lived, and pursued the art of learning on my own by using various medium and working with whatever was available to me. I tried my hands at pencil drawings, ink washes, acrylic paints, batik dyes, mixed-media collage and digital art… Although my own attempts at becoming a painter were filled with exhilaration, delight and hopes, it was not devoid of angst. The path to finding my own voice and accepting imperfection and failings proved to be a long winding road, as the perspective seemed to be always shifting from new opportunities to new challenges. Ultimately, my preoccupation with art and the need to express myself through it, mapped out a purposeful trajectory that allowed me to live, and share, wonderful moments with others.
