About The Artwork

This painting is from my "Schooner & Scow Collection". I grew up sailing on the ocean and have always been inspired by it's beauty and power. It was natural for me to base my first series on the concept of capturing the lure of the sea and sail. Throughout the impressionistic series there is a sense of adventure and drama, each depicting a mood or moment in time for the viewer to ponder. Whether it be the epic power and vastness of the sea or the tranquility of the great ships being slowly rocked in the cradle of it's swells. Canvas has a plain 2 inch border and is 395gsm 100% Archival cotton. It's acid free fine-art museum quality and printed with longevity pigment based inks, then embellished with oils and acrylics to enhance the richness of it's colors and texture. Artwork is signed on the front, dated and includes a Certificate of Authenticity Artwork is carefully packaged and ship within 10 days of purchase in a secure tube.

Philip Valende grew up on the North Shore of Massachusetts loving nature and was creatively driven from the day he was born. By the time he was twenty-one he had moved to Chicago where he became an award winning Art Director, directing shoots for the Johnson Wax Company and Dow Chemical Corporation. Philip was 28 when he was recruited by Ogilvy & Mather to move to New York City and direct shoots for MTV, ESPN and American Express. It was there he earned a reputation for outstanding use of vibrant color, light and ability to compose complex scenes. Realizing his work would be ideal for the fashion and music industries, Philip struck out on his own as a Fashion Photographer. His first big break came shortly thereafter when Runway Magazine asked him to shoot a 10 page fashion editorial. Within 3 years he became an internationally published fashion photographer, his work has appeared in magazines such as Hollywood, Issue One UK, Elle, Future Claw, Vanity Fair and numerous others as well as private collections around the world. Conceptually driven, he specialized in telling stories by seamlessly blending aesthetic concepts, composition and style into visually stunning fashion, portraits, beauty and editorial images. Now retired, Philip has turned his passions into creating fine art. He doesn't allow himself to be shackled to a particular style or medium, but instead prefers to work through his minds eye. He has produced and directed films such as "The Nature of Horn Pond", created light sculptures and paints both traditional and abstract art.
