Uploaded September 14 2023. This image replaces the one of Mayahuel I presented digitally in 2021 with double contours. When illustrating the ancient Mexican worldview I strive to enhance its beauty and visibility and want to reproduce the pictograms as close as possible to the ancient originals. I replace my first illustration with this one, which is more attractive and truer to the pre-Columbian original. Mayahuel is represented as a beautiful, blue maiden peeking out of a maguey stalk. The maguey or agave is the source of mezcal, tequila and pulque, alcoholic beverages given by the gods to humanity to be happy, to chant and sing. Seduced by Ehécatl Quetzalcóatl she descended from heaven and made love to him. For this offense she was killed and out of her remains grew the first agave plant. As a goddess of fertility she is associated with Tlazoltéotl, Xochiquetzal and Cihuacóatl. The 50 cm print comes in a limited edition of 9.
