In May 2023, Patrick Gourgouillat was approached by a gallery in Saint-Etienne to take part in a group exhibition entitled "Entends-tu". The exhibition imposed certain constraints on all the artists selected: a common format (40x120cm) and the work had to incorporate or emit sound. Patrick Gourgouillat opted for a participatory and conceptual art proposal. It consists of a bare frame onto which he stretches wires. Participants are then invited to blow up a balloon and write, draw and/or scribble on the biodegradable latex using a black marker pen. The finished balloon is then positioned on a wire and popped with a needle. Little by little, the work took shape. This first work was entitled [BOOM PARTY - N°17]. At the end of the exhibition, Patrick Gourgouillat won the "Prix du Public". "It's the first time that an idea has come to me so clearly at the outset of a project. As the concept of the exhibition was explained to me, I kept seeing images of funfairs, balloons with holes in them and thunderous "BOOMS". I wanted to make a participatory work. Like a party", recalls the artist. The artist continued this series by creating works in variable formats and different colours. [BOOM PARTY] is defined as spaces filled with rhythms, like unknown constellations with anarchic and joyful surfaces. The second work in the [BOOM PARTY] series, 'N°34' is 60 x 60cm square. The work was made from over 150 balloons, which were first inflated, then drawn with a marker and/or black acrylic and finally burst. The fragments are then stapled to threads, gradually building up a mass of balloon fragments. Warning: despite all the care taken in producing this work, including the use of an aerosol varnish to fix the pigments to the latex, it is possible that some parts of the work may blacken your fingers when handled. Once positioned, the work will have no technical differences in terms of the intensity of the blacks.

"Everything is important, everything is beautiful, everything is sad. Where do we start if we choose to tell life and make it a work of art? Michèle Mailhot My work is eclectic, both in its form and in the use of media. In general, I work in "series". I think that one of the ways of making things interesting is through diversity: the styles as well as the techniques are varied. It can be the animal world [The Animals], societal criticism [Human Behaviour], comic strip-like drawing [Mr Doggy], crazy images as if from a dream or nightmare [Short Stories], gentle melancholy [Sky Blue] or, based on my own experience, phantasmagorical worlds in a dazzling frenzy [Viva La Vida]. I am currently working on the latter series. These series are very different from each other. What interests me are the variations in energy that they imply for me. So I go from one thing to another like one goes through experiences. This is often what happens in art in general and in life in particular.
