About The Artwork

Teen idols. Tiger Beat. TRL. Beautiful faces melt away, images are degraded into pixels, into data, corrupted, perverted. The artificial intelligence of software explodes a tiny file, 100-times copied and shared, extrapolating the data, until its efforts appear as clumsy digital brushstrokes, the artist's hand? Every celebrity is an art-object. Every image is a piece of them, like shares of a company, how diverse is your portfolio? In this image, the actor Devon Sawa is rendered darkly in grayscale. Through iterations of copy/paste/enlarge/degrade/interpolate, the image begins to break down into a sort of digitized stroke, more like a rendering than a photograph (see detail images). This work is printed directly to stretched canvas and housed in custom wooden frame in with silver face and black sides edition of 1 + 2AP

Chris Horner is a Portland-based multi-disciplinary artist working in photographic and digital media. Originally trained as a writer, Chris has spent the past ten years blurring the boundary between text and image. Chris’s work explores the information-saturated experience of being extremely online--incorporating screenshots, photographs, marketing slogans, song lyrics, film stills, original texts and more into a net-art phantasmagoria. In addition to exhibiting work at San Francisco’s Get High on Mountains Gallery, and being published in UK-based Lazy Oaf Magazine, Chris has self-published multiple photo books, including Cash for Gold, Rock Paper Scissors, and Social Anxiety.
