The series NoChurch was born in relation to the theme of travel in a historical moment where travel was banned: 2020. If it’s true that “travels are the travelers” and “what we see is not what we see, but what we are” (The book of Disquiet by Fernando Pessoa) we believe that a journey can be led virtually in places that are not bound to a physical reality. This is why each Nochurch lies on the edge of the possible/impossible, real/virtual: -the boundary between reality and fantasy is dissolved like the barrier that divides art and architecture. By pushing Architecture to the limit of Art and vice versa, we don’t want to criticise a current aspect of life, we don’t want to create a new image for the world, we just want to add a new possible experience. We want to augment the limited reality we’ve found ourselves in. NoChurch is a realistic abstraction where architecture’s functional problem and question of scale are eliminated, the only thing that matters is to nourish the imagination, the soul. The name comes from the notion of church as a link between physical life and extra-physical, a place where you hope there is something more than what you can experience everyday.
