About The Artwork

For years I have worked in bronze, steel and paper. Frequently I add art or dichroic glass to my bronze and steel sculpture but decided to try blending my paper sculpture with dichroic glass. The paper, black or white, gives a perfectly neutral background to the dazzling, changing colors of dichroic embedded in the framed paper pieces. When people first see these works they are amazed at the radiance. You will enjoy Palette Noir every time you walk by because each time will be a different experience. The numerous pieces of glass, set at different levels within the sculpture, all reflect a distinct color then transmit a totally different color PS, Sorry, but photography simply can't do justice to the brilliance of the original. Promise! By the way, if you see a piece that is sold, no worries! I will make up to 5 editions, but each edition becomes an original because they are hand-cut with different glass embedded.

William Freer is a New Mexico artist whose work resonates with collectors nationwide. In his gallery and commissioned work, Bill focuses on the drama of lights and darks, creating pure designs that convey the power of the shadow. Re-imagining scenes from nature, from native symbols, from architectural details and art motifs, he carves through layers of paper or steel, always allowing the shadows to tell the story. As light shifts throughout the day, new moods emerge adding subtle movement. His paper sculpture is an oasis of calm and precision, a place of contemplation to collectors. And his steel work is the yang to paper’s yin, where collectors feel the voice of energy, strength and power. Drama springs from many joined layers that make shadows deep and alluring, while rich patinas, a colorful splash of glass and 360-degree rotation add surprise and excitement. He’s happiest when viewers touch and turn his work, feeling its surfaces, experiencing its spirit. With a keen understanding of both the public and private space, his works in paper and in steel appear in individual, corporate and public collections nationwide. He also partners with celebrated public artist Howard Meehan. Bill's recent public art installation (a kinetic work in steel and glass) was purchased by Western New Mexico University. A multi-media artist, Bill is equally at home with computer design programs, CNC equipment and a hammer.
