About The Artwork

Platinum Gold 30 “ x 30 “ Original artwork Black textured frame The fascination with the earth and the metals it produces at great depths over millions of years due heat and earth movements is a total fascination. The power that hugely precious metals like platinum and gold hold over economies and human kind as security or industry like jewellery and car making makes it even more coveted. I use here layers of resin in mixed media to build up a rock like texture. Mixing in pure gold leaf, copper, pure silver , platinum dust, mineral pigments and powders like mica, sprays, chalk paints, sand all mixed in to create a almost 3 d effect vision of earth or a planet from above. Like crevasses on a a distant planet surface or a close up of a rare rock full of precious minerals. In the various lights you see a different view and details every time. This beautiful matt black textured frame also emphasises the subtle details and colouring of the blended elements to spectacular effect.

Growing up in a isolated farming community it was fascinating to see the relationship between humans and the landscape. the toiling of the earth and the relationship between water, ice ,heat ,erosion was all around me at a very simple level. The corrosion on the metals from relentless rain on the farm or the slices of rock I found in the valleys formed this obsession with Time as a great creator and destroyer. I had to put this down on paper, the shapes and colours all around. I invented new techniques of creating the textures and layers and the landscapes I loved so much on my travels as an adult. Taking the subject of landscape painting and abstract art and turning it on its head using burning, smashing, layering with raw materials from geology itself such as sand, salt, quartz, diamond dust, gold leaf, iron.crushed precious stones to create an effect of real geological processes. Recyled papers and shredded plastic pieces I find, recycled heated glass are new ways of using our excessive planetary waste to create something beautiful.
