About The Artwork

Using thousands of hand painted push pins, strategically placed in the Benday dot formation, this work of art is a 3 dimensional piece. The layering of colors allows the image to change its tone and contrast as it is viewed from various angles. Having always had a love for the American southwest and the national park system, I created this painting to capture the feelings of freedom and adventure that one feels exploring this landscape. My unique technique for painting has offered so many layers of depth to explore. The Hoodoos in the foreground as well as the Balloons are created with pins, lifting them right off the canvas. The background itself is individual dots painted in the same formation as if to add additional dimension on an otherwise flat surface. This allows the viewer a chance to immerse themselves within this landscape and explore it as if they were there.

My name is Matthew Adamczyk, I am a self taught artist residing in Chicago. Prior to establishing my career as a painter I was a Principle Ballet Dancer. Having a profound love and a natural curiosity for all aspects of art, I am exploring many ideas as to what art can be through painting. My career dancing and performing on stage has triggered a sense of depth, light and shadow, perception and layers in art. My paintings focus on multiple layers of color to create a mix of tone, contrast and depth that constantly change as the art is viewed from different angles. I achieve this by hand painting thousands of push pins and plotting them on a Ben Day dot grid to establish the subject matter. The background area is painted but left without the presence of pins to create additional depth. Inspired by the Pop and Graphic artists before me I try and keep each piece bright, whimsical, and full of life and energy.
