About The Artwork

The Story of Saint Boy This is a story of Saint Boy. The brave horse that refused to carry a rider, a load on his back during Olympic Games❗in Tokyo. An action one might think understandable and normal. But he was shouted at, he was kicked repeatedly and hit many times. He than was called a nasty horse, a bad horse by many. It is my responsibility to honour him. To show his suffering. To bring what is happening more to light. To give him and many other horses and animals a voice. I want to honour him first. First not as a representation of any other being. For what he is. For how bravely he said no. For his suffering which he shouldn't be going through. The Sentient Observer Close your eyes, so you can open them, So you can see more clearly. I do not follow you, I do not lead you, I observe you. I can live that moment of observation, Smell it, grasp it, Elaborate it, learn from it, without any automatic reactions. I'm a horse, a dog, a cat, a rabbit. I'm a sentient being, are you? From a book "Equus Lost?" When a horse is not happy • He pins his ears back to his neck • His nostrils are tense and appear very thin • His tail is not relaxed, constantly moving back and forwards • His jaw is tense, his muscles are tense • He is restless, he could be galloping around the field, digging at the ground • And many more… Please if you are witnessing this happening say something. If you can do something. Do it. It could be as simple as not getting on a horse or getting of a horse. Contribution to the project Pasikonie by donating a portion of the sale of every print of Saint Boy to the cause. From Marta: “Pasikonie is a sanctuary for a small herd of nine horses ran by an NGO that goes by the same name. The 3 ha area is based in central Poland and gives the herd just a tiny bit of wilderness they were born to explore. Horses spend 24h outdoors with free access to hay, plants, trees in a forest, herbs and company of numerous birds. Here we try to understand horses better and understand how much our ways of life altered theirs. By offering retreats and education programs we invite people to approach the communication gap humans created by domesticating horses and using them for almost 6000 years without any concern for their agenda, their needs and their wellbeing. It’s time to make up for the time we have lost and learn what we can while we still have the time we can share with other species on this planet. By supporting Basia’s cause you will support creating track system for the herd in Pasikonie - a special arrangement of horses’ environment in which they follow tracks with various types of surface, with engaging activities that tap into their species specific potential. The track will benefit the welfare of the herd but also the learning possibilities for people coming to learn and heal. Thank you!"
