About The Artwork
I had intended for this composition to have a mid century flair but the canvas had another thought. After working on the piece for a couple of days and nothing was clicking, I decided to stop fighting with it and started playing. The first thing I did was take a large paint skin full of texture from a dried up palette and slap it on the canvas, not thinking, not worried about the composition or the outcome. It was freeing, it was such a release of built up tension. I kept up the playing, then stepped back and saw what the canvas was trying to express. I love the composition, the colors, the mood, the whimsy of this painting. I was needing a bright, explosive vase of flowers and the canvas knew it.
