I was working on a series of paintings influenced by Alice in wonderland. the first being the painting "patiently awaiting porridge". that sold at a regional exhibition. While not directly depicting any subjects in the book, I wanted to convey the same feel of fantasy. I hope viewers ask questions about what is happening in the subjects moment in time, their appearance of comfort and normalcy in their lives that exist within the fantasy, without asking too much of the viewer. I used digital pastels because it most strongly maintains the feel of natural media. Every digital tool I use must accurately portray the look and feel of traditional media. If need be I will also use the actual traditional media to further coax the work into a more tactile feel. The work is a caricature more than a portrait. There is no model reference and when I work within my imagination the style leans more to the exaggerated without becoming a cartoon.
