About The Artwork
Living near the beach and the Atlantic ocean allows me access to a host of flora and fauna. Brittany has a huge tidal range and the power of the waves often brings to the beach a wide variety of different seaweeds. These grow on the rocks and have a great variety of color and form. Colors range from bright pink through to greens, browns and purples. In my painting, I have shown a frond of seaweed, attached to a rock outcrop, being swayed by the moving currents of the tide. Our local restaurants serve varieties of seaweed on the menu and it is gathered commercially for food additives, cosmetics and pharmaceuticals.

I am a retired teacher, a digital and acrylic flow artist whose home is by the sea in Brittany, France. The movement and colors of the sea influence much of my art although I am also drawn to the influences of the Art Deco period. Being born in the industrial heartland of the UK, I have vivid memories of the steel making industry. Times change and with decline of heavy industry comes the decay of the once proud structures associated with it. Urban decay influences my work as does the way nature reclaims what is hers.
