ART OF MAZIAR   All we see are shadows.  We live in the world of shadows which our own imaginations create.  There is no such  thing as a "blue sky" or a "beautiful day".  These are our own perceptions, our shadow worlds.  What passes  through our minds as reality is mythical, meaningless; since it is only contractual concepts that act as proof to  our experience of reality. Reality is what we agree for it to be.   Nothing is what it seems to be. Even our very essence is shadow - we are shadows within and without.  And so  it is shadows that shape our affections; love blooms in the shadows and dies in the shadows.   So, in this shadow world where illumination is never fully realized, what then is blue? How sweet is the sugar  upon your tongue, filtered by the shadow of your perception - as sweet as the sugar on my own shadowed  tongue? Are the symbols and signs that we use - languages, cultures, rules and rhythms - enough to pierce  through the shadows and share the experience of "blue" or "sweet"? Do our symbols convey our realities, or  create them?  Our senses are receivers, finely tuned to specific frequencies, friendly to our needs and wants and experiences  of groping through the shadows in search of "real". From the first time I saw/heard/felt/ tasted/smelled these  shadows, realizing they were but shadows of my own mind's design, I understood that our signs and symbols  are the prisms that bend all light rays into shades of gray. So then, it is not the world that is full of shadows; it  is ourselves.  We, with our languages, symbols, limitations and assumptions are what blocks the light, disguises  what is real.  We are the shadow makers.   With art, I am exploring the shadows that I know¼the ones that occupy my mind, myself¼the shadows within  and without the self. I explore them in this collection through the interplay of symbols. Some pieces are meant  to invite the viewer into its world, past the exterior symbols that shadow the inner world.      Some pieces are meant to jump out at the viewer, past the shadowing symbols, to challenge the viewer's  perceptions of real.      1 | P a g e       ART OF MAZIAR The two works entitled "Days" are meant to convey  our perception of time passing, the numbing affect  that labeling the days, like calendar entries, has on  our perception of time. The post‐its shadow time -  they are reminders of all the "to do's" we use to fill  our days and hours. They become time for us¼just  labels of what is done and what remains to be done.        The slices of mirror that are on some of the pieces  are devices to blend the viewer's own perceived  shadows with my own by reflecting his own back  to him.     Some of my works are the never ending stories that my mind replays again and again - memories re‐ experienced through fractured words and spaces. They are unrelated to each other, but coexist in my mind's  recording. They play as a constant hum in the background of my daily existence. Memories from my childhood  are shown as lights peeking through dark shadows merged with language and sound.          What binds the pieces in this collection together are two key elements: the techniques used to create the art;  and the idea of exploring through abstract art the nature of our perceptions, and the way that our shadow‐ selves influence our experiences of realit
