I grew up in England. I created my first piece of art age 2 on my mom’s freshly painted walls. Needless to say, any consequences that were given did not dampen my developing creative skills. I went on to study nursing at St Mary’s Hospital Paddington. I was a good nurse, but a better artist. I ended up working as a graphic designer at The Wellcome Trust, a leading London based charity. As I didn’t go to art school I consider The Wellcome Trust job my lucky break. I have a lot of people to thank for showing faith in my untrained skills and given me the opportunity to learn from talented graphic designers, and pursue a career using my artistic skills. I immigrated to Seattle in the late 90s where I spent my time bringing up four active, demanding, incredible kids. During the early years of motherhood, art became my sanctuary, my escape to tranquility. Even though I still have one active, demanding incredible kid at home, I am grateful that I get to spend a little more time doing art now. My art reflects many aspects of my life. My inspiration for my work is both reflective and random. I like to work in a variety of ways, and in a variety of mediums. Not confining myself to one medium and one style enables me to experiment, explore and evolve, helping to refine my craft. Over the years I have produced a mixture of non-representational imagery, cityscapes, and figurative art. Sometimes when I paint I starts with a blank canvas and simply begin, with no preconceived ideas of the end result. I try to find balance with what appears on the canvas, color, form, line, shape, texture, light vs dark, and in that process, I instinctively recognize when it feels complete. I used this process when I created the painting Autonomous, which received 10th Place in the 2018 Patterns Art Exhibition. I have also started creating digital art. This is a totally different process in that I start with a pre-conceived idea. The nature of digital art means you can start with an image and multiply that image into several totally different art pieces. My recent works in this medium have been biographical in nature, displaying my connection to England, Europe, and what inspires me today. My art is a visual diary reflecting all that excites me about the world around me, past and present.
