I'm a digital artist based in Newcastle, exploring the postmodern, the liminal and the banal through a cybernetic lens. Using a range of media technology, digital algorithms and data moshing techniques I manipulate a painting or photograph to create a modern palimpsest. A synthesis of the digital and the organic, my practice is compressed by the virtual and the actual. 'The real' becomes the irreal, transmuted by a metamorphic process, cybernetic in nature, to produce artificial forms. The outcome is a liminal expression of our interaction with technology and reflects technology's impact on traditional notions of 'reality'. For these works, digitisation represents a dehumanisation of the artistic process. Their inherent artificiality and loss of the natural are a metaphor for our digitally infected culture. Cut off from 'the real', we are propelled into a world of endless fantasy, fake news and celebrity worship. Baudrillard conveyed the sentiment in the following quote: “Postmodernity is said to be a culture of fragmentary sensations, eclectic nostalgia, disposable simulacra, and promiscuous superficiality, in which the traditionally valued qualities of depth, coherence, meaning, originality, and authenticity are evacuated or dissolved amid the random swirl of empty signals." ― Jean Baudrillard
