About The Artwork

“Jingo” is part of a larger portfolio, “See What I Hear”, of illustrations based on song lyrics. ”Jingo” is a song by Santana that is a variation of a song "Jin-Go-Lo-Ba" by the Nigerian drummer Babatunde Olatunji. Santana included the song as part of their live set at Woodstock. In a Rolling Stone interview Carlos Santana talked about the performance, “When we first got there, around eleven in the morning, they told us we weren’t going on until eight. So I said, ‘Hey, I think I’ll take some psychedelics, and by the time I’m coming down, it’ll be time to go on stage and I’ll feel fine.’ But when I was peaking around two o’clock, somebody said, ‘If you don’t go right now, you’re not gonna go on.'”. Because Santana went on stage high, he thought the neck of his guitar was a snake he had to control. If you’ve seen the film Woodstock, you’ll understand why he made the faces he did while performing. The image size is 12 x 12 in. with a 2 in. boarder. The paper size is 16 x 16 in. Each print is produced in an edition of 33 on acid free archival paper and signed and numbered in the boarder below the image.
