About The Artwork

Today, in London, the oppressive legacy of the war on drugs lives on. The victims of this war are predominantly the working class - be they black, white or Asian. In the European Murder Capital…Where they Murder for Capital, there were 168 murders in drug related knife and gun crime in 2017. These drug related murders were a direct consequence of the money generated by drug sales. Quite simply if you remove the money from the hands of criminals then you remove the incentive for the murders. So why is no one considering legalisation or even decriminalisation? Why, because, the War on Drugs is actually a tool of state oppression. In 2017, there were 795 deaths related to drug misuse in London. The government claims that drugs are illegal because they pose a threat to health, however, if this was really the case, why do we spend twice as much on drug enforcement in London than drug treatment? There is a growing body of evidence that some drugs, principally psychedelics, can be used to treat a variety of conditions, including depression, PTSD, drug addiction and obsessive-compulsive disorder. However, regardless of scientific evidence and growingly progressive public opinion, countless Britons, who never harmed anyone in their lives, have been systematically jailed alongside murderers and rapists for the last 48 years. The current British government is using prohibition to keep the working class in their place. Prohibition is the penalisation of individuals because of their personal life choices; drug use is one of the only victimless crimes in English law. Substance dependence is the only mental health condition whose main feature, the possession of drugs, is considered a crime. Interestingly the decriminalisation of drugs is associated with improved health outcomes as more people who use drugs feel able to access treatment, which is why we have seen over 25 countries decriminalise drugs in the last 15 years.

The late Bill Hicks, probably said it best: ‘Today a young man on acid realized that all matter is merely energy condensed to a slow vibration. We are all one consciousness experiencing itself subjectively, there is no such thing as death, life is only a dream, and we are the imagination of ourselves,' Bill Hicks (1961–1994). www.DexLuthor.com https://www.instagram.com/dexluthor_london To find out more about the Electronic Music of Dex Luthor visit: https://soundcloud.com/user-car-warming-party
