Pyre Artwork

With this piece I was interested in contrast. I wanted to express a contrast of moods with use of shapes. Son Lux's "Pyre" is a mysterious song, both dark and entrancing. If you are familiar with the term you will know that a 'pyre' is a gathering of materials used mainly for burning a corpse during a funeral. Metaphorically however, the song is one of death and resurrection. So although the imagery of something burning to death is gruesome, it is necessary for growth and new life. Out of something brutal can come something beautiful. "Bring all your things and we will build a pyre Find resurrection in the flames And in the fury of alarm bells We shalt begin We shalt begin again" Combining smooth lines and sharp angles creates contrast visually and the warm colours were meant to evoke fire imagery as well as being somewhat ritualistic. The song itself has moments of malevolent intensity as well as delicate intrigue. I hope I was able to capture both of these moods in this piece.
