When I was in Berlin, I read an article from 2010 about a massive flood in the Pakistani village of Sindh. The flood drove million of spiders and possibly other insects into the trees. People in Sindh said they had never seen this phenomenon before the flooding. The picture of the trees covered by spider webs all around was dreamlike image such as a cotton candy but when I saw this picture I felt very sad. It's a spider's heaven but also tree's hell. It seems like paradise-prison paradox. A lot of those spiders could live in disaster but ultimately killed many trees they covered perhaps by reducing the amount of sunlight reaching their leaves. That reminds me of the idea 'We cannot change our past but our way of life can change the future’. My project ‘Still, Still-life’ is inspired by the spider web trees. The image threw question about ‘way of life’ as still-life objects always threw ‘the message’ at me. So I made installation with objects on the table and spider web around them like traditional Still-life paintings and take a picture, print on canvas and paint on it again. It seems like still-life paintings but also beautiful landscape with implication in absurdity. My idea is to look at inanimate objects again and again in order to find new answers to the question of what is the way of life that can change the future to a better one. I want my art works to give the storytelling-impression of my oriental perspective combined with critic view point.
