About The Artwork

A visual representation of a fable about perpetual conflict. Each participant in the fight is responding to an attack, and each blow helps to perpetuate the struggle. The only way to stop the cycle of conflict is for one person to cease retaliation, thus breaking the chain of violence. But none of the wrestlers can see this - or they are too emotionally involved in the battle to seriously consider that option. And so they keep on retaliating and the cycle of revenge continues infinitely. I was inspired by ancient Greek pottery art and tried to render this piece in that striking classical style. I composed this work in minimalist gold/yellow/black monochrome, with a meticulous degree of asymmetry to enhance its value as an interior decor piece.

Nationality: Nigerian Email: thomas.ero@gmail.com Born in 1981 in Ibadan, Nigeria, Thomas has received numerous recognitions for his artistic talent since he was very young. In 1995 he finished his secondary schooling on scholarship after winning first place in a national art competition jointly organized by Shell and the Nigerian Conservation Foundation. In 2018 he was invited by National Geographic to represent Nigeria, creating campaign art for their global anti-plastic pollution initiative titled "Planet Or Plastic". Thomas' style is versatile, but he generally focuses on psycho-spiritual themes expressed in a surrealistic/semi-abstract, African style with edgy lines and vibrant colours. He explains: "I like to render my subjects in such a way as to highlight the psychological, spiritual and invisible factors affecting and shaping them."
