This piece is a statement on Photography as Art. Sometimes my work does not fit into prescribed categories of "photography" because of the level of manipulation post-camera, and/or application of traditional painting mediums. At the same time, the same works are disqualified from general "art" categories because they contain a central element that is a photograph. In response, I created this unique piece. Here is how I created it, bear with me! I made a sharpie sign "THIS IS A PHOTOGRAPH", held it up and photographed myself. I then printed multiple copies, cut them up and bonded them onto a small, 8"x10" wood panel using various acrylic mediums. Next, I photographed this piece and brought it back into the digital world. I created a digital collage using the original digital photograph, combined with the photograph of the physical collage. This final work I printed, mounted on the final 16"x20" wood panel, and finished with acrylic medium. The sides of the panel are painted a medium gray to pull everything together. So, there you have it. This is an acrylic finished, wood mounted, archival fine art cotton rag and archival pigment ink print, of a digital collage composed of photographs of a physical collage of a digital photograph. Although the original source photograph was black and white, the final processing created some wonderful hues of purplish pink and indigo blues.
