The Geometry of Nature project, week #20, 05-17. Elbaite being part of the tourmaline family comes in virtually every color of the spectrum. Tourmaline was first brought to Europe by Dutch traders in the 1700s. They gave it the name, Aschentrekker, or “ash puller,” They used the crystals to pull ashes from their Meerschaum pipes. This ability to gain magnetic powers and become electrically “polar” by means of heat readily distinguished Tourmaline from any other gem. It is doubtful this custom is still practiced today considering the value of elbaite gems.

Science inspires my art, particularly mathematics and geometry. Mountain, ocean, cloud, trees, or flowers, people all celebrate geometry in their own way. Big and small, the connections are an endless source of inspiration and awe hiding in each of my images that multiply the experience of looking at the art. Most artworks featured in my gallery are extracted from the ongoing Math-Art series available in print or format with all major distributors, Apple, Google, and Kindle.
