This is the piece 4 in the series: more than a 9-5, it is work to be a woman - is a series of 40 pieces made from work-worn pantyhose, manipulated and put on display. The hosiery is fixed with gel gloss medium and photographed as a secondary view. My work contorts at the usual view of the subject and confronts the structural integrity. Stretching form and expanding meaning. The neutral color palate keeps them as a sleek piece to display but their original function is much more personal. Hosiery can be many things. It can be a uniform, a costume, and a custom. It can be sexual fetish or virginal and chaste. It is out of fashion and it is modern. It can be restricting, binding, suffocating and it can freeing.
