About The Artwork

The Pop-Occulture Artwork is an alternative version of the Fifty-Sixth archetypal spirit, who is Mantra named Gremory. This spirit/archetype is listed within the medieval Grimoire, entitled the Goetia. I have otherwise depicted Gremory as a Succubus archetype of the Fallen 'Anima,' who is of similarity to what a Tibetan Tantric Buddhist terms as a Dakini. The term Nightgaunt is derived from the Cthulhu Mythos of H,P. Lovecraft. The Nightgaunts are also mentioned in Lovecraft's Dream Cycle, who first make their appearance in the poem 'Night-Gaunts,' as well as the novella, The Dream-Quest of Unknown Kadath, which are both authored by Lovecraft. The term, Nightgaunt is a play on the word, Nightmare, which originally described a dream visitation of a Succubus, hence the use of the feminine word, Mare. The Nun refers to the Hebrew letter Nun, which also describes a fish. The motif of the fish refers to hypnagogic trance ingress into the watery astral realms of the 'womb' dream. The Dogon of South Africa call their trance adepts, Nommo, who are essentially Shamans. The Nommo are symbolised as having phallic fish heads. Hence you also have the symbolism of the Sheela na gig, who represents the vaginal gateway into the 'womb' dream. When a trance adept consciously accesses the dream he/she is able to experience (an out of body experience/OOBE) shamanic flight, which is symbolised as a bird or that of a winged eye. The ancient Egyptian symbolism pertaining to the God Horus refers to (OOBE) shamanic flight. Horus is depicted as a Hawk/Falcon headed Pharaoh seated upon the lap of Isis, whose symbolism was translated into the Virgin Mary. Isis personifies the (base Chakra) throne of the Pharaoh. In falconry a falcon, which is specifically flown by a lady is called a Merlin, which leads you to the Shaman, named Merlin. In other words, a Merlin/Shaman is enabled to fly within the dream as a winged-eye by the Tantric aid of a conjured Succubus/Dakini, which in dream Yoga practice, is attained by the arousal of the Kundalini Shakti (fire snake/serpent) along the spine. The Nun of a prior Priestess, also refers to the Tarot card: The High Priestess Of The Silver Star II. The Tarot card of the High Priestess in the Cabbala crosses over the hidden sphere of Da'at, which correlates with the reptilian brain-stem. The reptilian brain-stem (serpent) determines the depth of one's hynagogic trance and dream-states. The Tarot card of the High Priestess is ascribed to the 13th Cabbala path and that of a Hebrew letter, Gimel, which means, Camel. In the Goetia, Gremory is classically described as riding a Camel. The name of Gremory is derived from the French word, grimoire. Basically Gremory personifies a grimoire, whose surreal contents exist within the symbolic domain of the Surrealist dream. When conjured into a lucid dream, Gremory manifests as a Pop-Surrealist Nightgaunt Nun, who is an Entartete Kunst Art Muse, whom stands betwixt the hynagogic trance pylons of the Sacred (dream) and the (waking) Profane.

Mardun is principally a Surrealist Artist, whose author's name is Faustus Crow; but both art and writing alchemically merge of a sacred wedding. Mardun has an experiential interest in lucid dreaming, which of a neurological phenomenon has inspired artists and authors throughout the ages, from whose creations since the time of the painted cave wall of a Shaman have sprung insights into the nature of reality, which became ensuing mystical traditions, such as the occultism of Aleister Crowley to that of the Surrealist 'fantasy fiction' of H.P Lovecraft. Mardun does not see a division between the practices of art and magic; for both practices deal with symbolism, which is the subconscious language form of surrealist dreams and of your fantastic Imagination, which also inspires your culture.
