Underlying paint: gilded acrylic. Image: oil and chinese ink on wood panelling. Partly framed. Large format painting. Last year I found a tiny black and white photograph depicting a soccer team that had obviously won a trophy at a regional derby. On closer inspection I noticed that a breeze had lifted the hair of the proud winners just as the photo was being taken, giving the whole occasion a comical but a tender touch too. I wanted to capture this fleeting moment of these young heroes - long since passed away - and to depict them in the same way the ancient greeks painted their mummy portrays on pieces of wood...
