"With no recognizable image or conventional composition,Laires abstractions appear to fuse how and why, means and ends, instrumental method and expressive message,to match with reality. His painting is inhabited by opposites:lyrical and violent, anguished and ecstatic, cathartic and obsessive tormented and liberating.Which combination of terms is "correct" or definitive, when absent titles hampers the reconstruction? Polissensorial, the hand-off way Laires deploys his medium embodies an idea with universal meaning, far beyond the mysterious surface."

After 30 years of dedication as an ophthalmologist to Diabetic RetinopathyI started dedicating myself mainly to painting. About my painting With my paintings I suggest EMOTIONS,that can mean something or not, depending on people's experiences or state of mind.So I hope to hear what people have to say and how they feel from the art I propose. In fact lately ,very few of my paintings have a title.I feel that limits the freedom of those who watch and observe to interpret in their own way.I put a title on a painting of mine when a particular emotion comes up on the surface. This is my freedom. It's been extremely gratifying to read what people write on my exhibition book. A doctor and fellow colleague wrote "I arrived with personal concerns and left with a feeling of peace". This testimony was more than enough to justify all the work carried out until then. Aristotle once said "The aim of theatre is to purge our emotions". In my opinion Abstract Expressionism has in itself similar vocation. I wrote about this kind of painting because my whole creative process is totally directed towards the unconscious, taking control of the operations. This total freedom gives me a personal pleasure, but also allows for a freedom of response with a multiplicity of individual interpretations. Somewhere in Africa they say "Memory goes to the forest to get firewood and brings from there what it wants". Fragments build our identity, the sum of overlapping memories. That is what emerges when a painting is complete.
