This work was convieved as a exchange with my mother for ailine tickets she bought for me to exhibit in Rome in 1999. In the Chinese Zodiac she is a pig sign. She had a travel office in London and she had the painting in her office until she sold off her business. On her passing in 2014 she left it to me in her will. The 7 Golden Pigs are symbolic of positive and strong energy. This being the year (2019) of the Golden Pig is of added value. This work is a dyptych so it needs a large space to breath in, and it is energetic too. The work was painted on my week stop over in London as I flew between Brazil and Italy in 1999. There were two other piantings I executed in that period, Flock of Birds and The Tail Engine. All were acrylic on canvas paintings. The matrials used needed a quick dry solution, hence acrylic and my style of Contemporary Tribal Surrealism is my personal art signature that I have developed over my four decades of painting.

Bernard Rangel is a self taught artist painting for more than 40 years. His surreal work is a new avenue departing from the established ones of artists such as Miro, Matisse and Max Ernst: it is both creative and visceral. Named "Contemporary Tribal Surrealism" it reflects the Global Village of the 21st century. The lines of his work both in design and colour are creative, coherent, consistent, original and unique, but it all springs forth from a source that is intriguing, like his cultural background. The lines of tribal simplicity fused in solid and amusing lines. In particular when the viewer just looks at the different colour fields the work takes on other dimensions. Bernard has lived in 8 different countries: in both hemispheres and on either side of the globe. Now based in London he explores new ways of presenting his images to a wider audience. His present work can be seen on smartphone protectors, animated videos on YouTube, and in his new studio in Bermondsey at the Biscuit Factory, Block F, Studio 20, SE16 4DG.
