#7 Painting

That whole genre of history painting, that grand narrative of style painting, I wanted to position my work in relation to. So in order to achieve the similar kind of authority i had to adopt a similar format. I paint a lot of things but i don’t find any them incompatible because they kind of reinforce each other. So whether I’m using film or sculpture or anything else, I’m either working with a set of conventions that have already been established or I’m working against the set of conventions that have already been established but the primary source of my ideas about visual representation comes from pictorial representations. the initial images come from art history books and personal knowledge of modern art history. In attempt to connect past, present and future ideologies. I thought id take a medium that was undervalued and take a subject that was neither figurative or abstract and try to find a way in which we can carry these traditions into the future so there is constant evolving.
