The theme of the work is 'boundary'. I made a fossil as a motif because fossils share both life and death. The pattern of a fossil tells what the creature looked like when it was alive, and at the same time, it is itself a dead rock. In this way, the fossil expresses both life and death in an instant. Maybe it points to the boundary between life and death. Inspired by the characteristics of such fossils, I wanted to create my own new fossils using the hardening properties of paints. First, the skeleton is hardened with acrylic paint, and then the rocks are drawn around it with oil paint. The reason why acrylic is adopted for the skeleton part is because of its fast-hardening property, which makes it possible to capture instantaneous changes in paint. On the contrary, the oil painting of the rock part was able to express patterns and textures more freely because it hardened later. Another characteristic is to express the characteristics of using the color of paint and a knife. The part with the skeleton motif uses a color that contrasts with the rock to express the vitality of being alive, while the part with the motif of the rock uses a knife. By roughening the surface using Also, the color and pattern of the rocks indicate the form of energy emitted by the creature. The skeleton of a pigment fossil does not represent exactly one type of animal. It means a symbol of a living thing similar to that. Through this, I was able to complete the boundaries between life and death, softness and roughness, acrylic and oil painting.
