I grew up in the beautiful Tuscan town of Florence, immersed in its history and constantly inspired by the every-day connection to the work of Renaissance masters. Since I was a child, it felt a natural connection to drawing, painting and sculpture; indeed, it was often easier for me to express myself by these means than through words. And still today, my hands speak much more directly than my words. I studied art in high school and then at Florence’s reknown Accademia di Belle Arti. Drawing, painting and working with clay have become my own way to share my feelings, my intuitions, and the world as my eyes see it. I am passionate about people, which are the center of my work. I am fascinated by their ways of being, expressions, habits, mechanisms and obsessions; I am eager to capture their feelings and emotional states, exploring how they may relate to mine. I therefore express myself through human figures, and usually use either a bald man or feminine figures where hair plays an extremely important role; these are my creatures, and my words. To transform my sensations and intuitions into something visible or solid helps me embody them more fully and deeply, allowing me to be in contact with myself, recognize and nurture my qualities and overcome my fears. Reflected in all my art work, there is loads of me. My work starts with a simple draft by pencil on a small piece of paper, drawn quite quickly to capture the initial impression; I then start working on how to better shape, balance and harmonize that impression according to my intuitions; and finally, I decide which technique is best suited to realize the full idea… wood, clay, canvas…. I enjoy combining the techniques, mixing and contaminating them beyond fixed rules and searching for new materials which can help me express what I feel in each of my art works.
