A portrait of the sculptor and painter Alberto Giacometti. The work is part of a series of small portraits of artists (painters, sculptors, writers, musicians, composers) who have contributed to my artistic training and continue to inspire me in my work as a painter and designer. All these works were conceived as "pictures for library", small works in oil, inserted in a wood box with a thickness of about 4 cm. They can be placed on a shelf, maybe alongside their works, as well as hung on the wall.

I was born in Cosio in Valtellina in the province of Sondrio. Soon, I developed a passion for drawing and painting, but the environment in which I lived and the lack of art schools in my town oriented my studies towards technical schools To combine my passion for art and my technical knowledge in 1978 with my brothers I founded a small company for producing design objects in wood. For the development of the company we have worked with the most important Italian artists and designers. Our company was the first in Italy to offer a modern interpretation of the traditional cuckoo clock, with a wide collection that is constantly being improved with the contribution of young professionals. The commitment in managing the company did not allow me to develop artistic activities at a professional level. However in all these years I continued to paint, exposing only occasionally especially locally. My work arises from a vision of art that wants to synthesize two concepts seemingly contradictory but actually complementary: art as a depiction of the suffering of the world and art as an escape from reality into an universe of pure pleasure and of absolute beauty From the beginning I have engaged in the search for a personal language able to take the teachings of the great masters of European and American tradition. In-depth study of abstract painting of early twentieth century (starting from Kandinsky up to American abstract expressionism) and subsequently the direct knowledge of Transavanguardia led me to work, first, with techniques near to abstract expressionism and to expressive forms of Transavanguardia and later with a progressive decrease of the figure and color, up to the neutral surface, white and black Thus were born in the early 90's many works in black and white with a few other color inserts, made using newsprint mounted on canvas with a mixture of glue, PVA glue, oil and acrylic. Around 2000 my production undergoes a change, first of all in the size of the paintings. Until then I had favoured large canvases on which I could range using oil paints, acrylic, inserts of different materials; from this point on I will use canvases or wood supports rarely larger than A4. The variation in the size of the work is related to complex aesthetic reasons: in particular the need to find different ways to explore the relationship between form, color and movement.
