A Girl in a Wreath Painting

The picture was painted under the impression of the holiday Kupala Night. It is a traditional Slavic holiday that was originally celebrated on the shortest night of the year, 23-24 june. It was the Belarusians who preserved the celebration of Kupala in the most archaic form - in the form in which our distant ancestors met today. In all cultures, Kupala was celebrated at night: bonfires were lit everywhere and dances were arranged, crowns were woven and medicinal plants were collected, which at that time had special powers. Bathing has always been an obligatory ritual of Jan Kupala: it cleanses the body, and jumping through the fire cleanses the soul.
