A Liminal Hawk Painting

I aspire to the intensity of this hawk. From a technical standpoint, the thing that works here is the border land between the figure and the background. If this was rendered as it would be in person, or as it would appear in a photograph, the line would appear as a hard thing where feathers stop and the air of the background makes its appearance. I did this and it was like an illustration. The painting only became a work of art when the border land was respected and described as liminal space, a blurring. From a metaphysical point of view, there is no real separation between bird and air.
