The inspiration for this work was the history of chintz, the meaning of peonies across different parts of the world, Hollywood and Japanese film, anthropomorphism, AI, animals imagery in logos and products and (non-human) animal testing.
Revolving thoughts, all leading to what it means to be human.
The little rat here is an Amami Spiny Rat, found only on one island in Japan and currently under threat through habitat destruction, competition with foreign species, and predators. The stylised geometry of her form is a recurring note in this work.
