About The Artwork

"Rolling Moor, Curlew's Song" takes you walking through the beautiful warm colours of the moors in Summer. This is a moor close to my home and is one of my regular haunts where I hear the curlew, sky lark and the cry of lapwings. With a blue atmospheric sky and tones of ochre, green and red in the wild bracken your eye will wander over the textures in the foreground to the delicate clouds in the distance. Painted in high quality acrylics on a thin edged canvas, "Rolling Moor, Curlew's Song" is ready to hang, a frame is optional. The edges are painted white. I have harnessed some of the impressionist techniques, painting impasto applied with a palette knife or brush. With multi layers of thickly applied colour the marks appear to be completely abstract close to and yet when the viewer stands back the whole painting becomes a clear recognizable landscape. For secure shipping I package work most carefully, alway tracking for the journey. Feel free to contact me with any queries you may have regarding my work and methods.

Working from observation of nature Amanda gathers visual information with a sketchbook or camera and often begins a canvas en plein air, finishing these preliminary pieces in her studio. Working expressively in acrylics or oils, with a palette knife and other mark making techniques, she works layer upon layer until the painting reaches a natural conclusion forming paintings that lie somewhere between abstraction and realism. “Painting is a response to the beautiful landscape around me, the experience of being in the place is as much an important part of the process as drawing. I attempt to capture the spirit of the land and that quiet sense of tranquillity that coexists with a closeness to the natural world. I am moved by dramatic light sweeping over the rugged elements chased by clouds and the timeless changing sea when visiting the coast. I have a passion for expressing nature in bright vivid colours and nothing gives me more pleasure than when people say they love their painting.” Amanda exhibits widely and her paintings have found homes with private collectors in the UK, America, Asia and Europe. She is represented by several galleries in the UK.
