About The Artwork
The intent for this piece was to talk about my identity of race. Having African American ancestry but having Caucasian features gave me the sense of a barrier to that part of me. The fence was intended to show the American idea and how my skin color keeps me protected from the profiling of minorities but also how my features leave me unable to assimilate into my African American family.
