“ASLEEP” 10” x 14” Signed Oil Painting on 1/8” tempered “Masonite”. This is an early painting done in the impasto style of abstract impressionism. The thick lines of paint were applied by a pallet knife to achieve a drag-in color effect and heavy three dimensional application. The central figure was applied by a stiff plastic brush using a thinner paint/turpentine mixture that allowed the paint to be pulled through the dark blue color and out to the gray areas leaving a trail of color that enhances the dreamy state of the image. Diametrically opposed color sets provide a vibrant color effect on the body of the image sleeping against a fence in winter.

I spent 45 years as a product inventor, designer and engineer. I created some of the most successful consumer and medical products in the world including; Crayola markers, Sheafer pens, Airwick room fresheners, Okidata printers, French’s mustard packaging and many others. I have over 45 seminal utility and design patents. During those years I actively pursued my passion for painting in watercolor and oil media. The examples in the gallery span these years.
