About The Artwork

The work was created by contemporary Kazakh artist Leyla Mahat in 2019. The symbology of a horse is rather complicated, horse is considered a sacred animal in the culture of nomads. The horse has always been a friend, a fellow traveler, accompanying a nomad, a warrior or a cattle herder throughout their lives: from the cradle to the grave. Those days, the loving horse of the deceased armored in ammunition played a key role in the funeral rituals. The image of the horse is an ancient symbol of cyclicality in evolution. The artist experiments with techniques and materials. The playful use of colour are all reconsiderations of the various forms of delivery of visual expression.
