Although I was born in a sunny and hot country, my life circumstances were such that I lived for ten years of my life in the North near the Arctic Circle in the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous District, Russia. There is snow here for seven or nine months of the year and the polar night reigns. And the plains are interspersed with winding rivers. But the northern landscapes are imprinted in my heart, like the faces of close people. The severity and restrained palette of taiga places will always excite my soul. I find the loconic rough forms of taiga landscapes interesting. This year I was lucky enough to return to the North. It was a trip by car to the Murmansk region, a region similar in climate to my native places. The journey was like a return to childhood. During the trip, I made a series of sketches, some of them I drew from memory, focusing on the memories from the trip. Mast pines and old fir trees fascinate me with their shape. And the endless marshy plains and the smooth surface of the lakes further emphasize their scale and monumentality.
