About The Artwork
In this painting, I aimed to maintain the drawing as a quick doodle. I used oil pastels and attempted to experiment with their resistant effect when combined with watercolours. The lines that create the subject matter are drawn in oil pastels, and I then dripped watercolours in various shades of orange, blue, and black on top of the drawing to create the background. The oil pastels resisted the watercolour and remained in place, resulting in a beautiful background. I had a lot of fun creating this piece and was pleased with the results. I have been invited to the David Thompson resort in July to paint with two groups of 30 painters. As we will be in the mountains, I am looking for a technique that doesn't require too many materials. I believe this will be a fun and effective technique to use there.
