About The Artwork
This image started with a self portrait of me with my dads cat, taken last time I was in California with my family in a time of happiness. I hid the portrait behind a line drawing of New York City. it functions as both my home and cell, as it separates me from my hometown. The figures in the left corner are frozen above the buildings. They are both experiencing the free excitement of flight, and the fear and dread of falling. The number on the side is the suicide prevention help hotline. these images come together into a work that is both sad and celebratory at the same time. a work that battles with depression and self help simultaneously.
