Painting: Ink, Acrylic on Paper. In my paintings I explore mark making through large bold brushstrokes with ink and acrylics on wall paper, aiming for a perfectly balanced composition between brushstrokes, mark making and original design. I love patterns and I never know beforehand how the design will react to the ink. I am always intrigued by the dialogue between the ink, the paint, the original pattern and myself, it never bores me! In this painting especially the flowery pattern is shining through the ink in a beautifully subtle way. That's why I decided to keep the painting simple in Black and White. The brushstroke was done in one go and perfect. The paintings of Christopher Wool inspire me, from him I learned to find the courage to sometimes cover a beautiful part of the brushstrokes with paint to make the composition more powerful. In every painting there is a piece of me and I hope I can convey that to the viewer. I would love it if they get intrigued by it and want to keep looking at it to find evermore details of interest.

Since 2011 I have been working as a professional visual artist in my own studio in Scheveningen, The Hague. My preferred material to work on is wood or wallpaper. I make bold strokes on the paper with Chinese ink and acrylic paints. I investigate how my mark making and the existing patterns can melt into my very own authentic paintings. The process of the mark making, the eliminating of parts of the pattern and the letting them resurface again is fascinating to me and the end result should challenge the eyes and the mind. My pieces on wooden boards are also based on ornamental pattern elements and are made in acrylic paint using handcut stencils of parts of patterns. Making art is as essential to me as breathing is. I am very proud that my art is now in private collections in the USA, Canada, UK, Netherlands, Belgium and Germany.
